  • Profile: My first introduction to Afghans and the world of dog shows was through Monica Booth-Thompson of the famous SACHEVERELL kennel in 1963. As a schoolgirl I went to help out at Monica`s boarding kennel and soon became entranced with her varied pack of Great Danes, German Sheperds and an Afghan.

I purchased my first Afghan in 1965 and bred my first litter in 1969. In total I have only bred 7 litters but Afghans carrying the Saxonmill affix have to date won well over 60 cc`s, comprising of 11 champions, 6 CC winners and multiple res cc winners and stud book winners.

I now have 6 consecutive generations of Saxonmill champions .The fifth generation being Ch Saxonmill Jellicle Jett who fininshed as the top bitch for 2001 at only 3 years old and also taking the Reserve bitch CC at Crufts 2001 as well as other numerous CC`s and a Hound Ch Show Group win. CH Jett has just produced a stunning litter to Ch Exxos Gameboy at Zharook , combining the best of Scandanavian and English bloodlines. She has laso just produced a second litter to INT and Multi CH Boxadan Granpa Lives Forever who have just made their debut into the show ring and are already making their mark.

The foundation bitch behind the Saxonmill line is Ch Sacheverall Kanika of Saxonmill ( who goes back to Horningsea lines - in particular CH Koolaba Horningsea Eboni Earl ).

Kanika produced just one litter producing Ch Saxonmill Black Currant and Ch Saxonmill Black Iris. Black Currant went on to be a prolific sire with 13 champion children at home and abroad. He was top sire in breed for 1991, `92 & `93.

Black Currant sired Ch Harlextan Piara at Saxonmill who produced 2 litters for me and produced 4 Champion children: Ch Currant Bun, Ch Jennyanydots, Ch Rum Tum Tigger and Ch Bustopher Jones and CC winners in Rumpleteaser and Lucy Locket.

Rum Tum Tigger and Jennyanydots are in fact my first golds for 24 years, my line to Kanika is predominantly black & silver.

1998 saw Ch Piara winning Runner -Up TOP BROOD BITCH ( all breeds ) and in 1999 as top brood bitch (Afghans) and myself as Top Afghan Breeder ( Runner Up in 1997 and `99).

Kanika, Black Currant, Black Iris and Piara can be seen on my Foundation Dogs page.

Ch Rum Tum Tigger finished 1998 & `99 as Top Male Afghan and Top Stud Dog in 99 and has to date 18 CC`s having won the Dog CC at crufts for 3 consecutive years ( `98, `99 & 2000 ). He also has Hound Group wins and placings to his credit.

Ch Jennyanydots has also a Speciality Best In Show wim and was retired in 1998 to produce a litter to her kennel mate Ch Currant Bun.

I share my home and my life with 5 adult Afghans, , Ch Jennyanydots, and offspring Ch Jellicle Jett , the 6 year old Ch Karnak Jeera at Saxonmill ( a Tigger son ), Jeera was the youngest male to be awarded a CC in the breed at only 13 months of age. Jetts two offspring Rio and Bombalurina are now just 2 years of age. RIO HAS RECENTLY GAINED HIS UK TITLE MAKING HIM THE SIXTH GENERATION SAXONMILLL CHAMPION. Bombalurina has 2 CCs is is well on the way to her UK title.Roket Man and Star Struck have recently joined the household and have just made their debut into the show ring and already have multiple Best puppy wins to their credit.

Sadly we lost Piara at the end of 1997 but her memory and legacy in her children , grandchildren and great grandchildren lives on. We also sadly lost Rum Tum Tigger and Currant Bun at the end of 2003 but their memory is still with us in their children and grand children.

I awarded my first Challenge Certificates in 1979 and since then have awarded a total of 18 CC`s culminating in having the privilege of judging the Afghan Dogs at Crufts March 2002 an appointment I see as a recognition of my success in the breed over the last 30 years.

I have been actively involved with the Midland Afghan Club for many years as a committee member and Chairman. I retired as Chairman 6 years ago after holding the position of Chairman for 13 years.

My love of Afghan Hounds is without question and I look now to the future by continuing my lines through a suitable breeding programme, which has and may again encompass some interesting diversions given the new regime within the U.K.!

I will also continue to contribute to the breed in the form of training and encouraging newcomers to the breed through education.
